What is Group Training?Under the group training system, Westvic employs apprentices and trainees who are "leased" to businesses acting as trainers/employers for an agreed period. The aim is to provide varied, on-the-job experience combined with accredited training. In conjunction with the host employer, Westvic Work Force assists in the selection of the Australian Apprentice. The major benefit of group training is that Westvic Work Force provides administrative support, including payment of wages, superannuation, PAYE tax and WorkCover. Host employers can "hand back" trainees and apprentices in the event of work shortage, or changed circumstances. And there are more benefits, see the following pages.
What is an apprenticeship? An apprenticeship transforms a school leaver or unskilled worker into a skilled tradesperson. It is a contract between the apprentice, the employer and the State Training Authority and usually lasts for four years. An apprenticeship combines practical experience with further training at a TAFE college or approved private training provider. What is a traineeship?A traineeship provides a combination of structured training for one to three years. Registered Training Organisations deliver and assess training within the workplace. Traineeships can be full or part-time and offer the opportunity to progress to higher level qualifications after completing the initial certificate. Traineeships can also be undertaken as part of school studies. What occupations offer training?Vocational training is offered in a wide range of industries including building, automotive, hospitality, metals, electrical and electronic, engineering, painting and plumbing. Rural and clerical traineeships are also among an extensive range of career options. |
