What is a Traineeship?

A traineeship provides a combination of structured training for one to three years. Registered Training Organisations deliver and assess training within the workplace. Traineeships can also be undertaken as part of school studies and are available across a wide variety of industries.

All trainees must be enrolled with a Registered Training Provider. Training can be delivered off-site at the training institution, or at the workplace under the supervision of the employer and a registered training provider. A workplace assessor visits every three months to monitor the trainee’s progress. A nationally recognised certificate is issued upon completion of the traineeship. Traineeships can be full-time or part-time and offer the opportunity to progress to higher level qualifications after completing the initial certificate.
