The Step Up program has been developed by Westvic Staffing Solutions for local secondary students to develop knowledge, skills and confidence to make the transition from school to work and further study. The program is designed to:
- Empower school students with the ability to make critical decisions about their vocational pathway goals
- Develop an awareness of the processes and stages of setting career pathway goals
- Provide participants with an understanding of the importance of life long-learning opportunities as a means to achieving life goals
Importantly, the program aims to contribute to improving student retention rates. It is sufficiently flexible to address the specific needs of students, and is a modular program that allows for a range of entry and exit points as required. The program comprises:
- FOUNDATIONS – Exploring existing knowledge about the realities of life and work.
- OCCUPATIONS – Gaining perspective on the world of work, identifying individual strengths and how they match specific occupations.
- REALISTIC PERSPECTIVES – Understanding the realities of life and work, impacts of change, community and social issues, and what succeeding in specific jobs actually entails.
- FUTURE – A practical preparatory program for the world of work including developing skills for research, developing careers pathways, education avenues/opportunities, and applying for and securing meaningful employment.
- INDUSTRY TOURS/EMPLOYER VISITS – Schools will be given the opportunity of undertaking an Industry Tour within the local area.
Each program comprises 12 half day sessions (including travel time).
