The Westvic Staffing Solutions Foundation will once again be targeting skills growth in the Western District with up to $90,000 being made available for a range of projects and activities in 2010.
The Foundation will have a special focus on supporting skills development in the aged care industry. In line with the federal government’s recent announcement of an additional 4600 new training places over four years in aged and community care, Westvic Staffing Solutions will be sponsoring 10 additional school based traineeships in aged care at regional aged care facilities in 2010.
Three positions will be made available in the Colac/Corangamite region, three in the Warrnambool/ Moyne region and two each in the Glenelg and Southern Grampians regions. Young people interested in a career in this industry but who wish to continue with school in 2010 and undertake part time training and work are welcome to contact their local Westvic Staffing Solutions office for an application. Advertising commences in Western District papers in the week ending December 12, 2009.
In 2010 the Westvic Foundation will continue to recognise high quality performance by students undertaking VET studies at regional secondary schools. Fifty $250 VET Excellence Awards will be made available to students selected by their VET co-ordinators as high achievers. Applications will be invited from schools in October 2010.
In 2009 nine schools were successful in gaining funds to conduct special school projects aimed at improving facilities and assisting students to advance their employability. A list of successful projects is also included in our news section. In 2010 the Westvic Foundation will again support schools to set up school projects that target skills development for employment.
School based apprentices and trainees employed through our Group Training operations in 2010 will be free of training fees with the assistance of the Westvic Foundation.
Since 2003 the Westvic Staffing Solutions Foundation has contributed over $400,000 to Western District schools and students.
