An apprenticeship transforms a school-leaver or unskilled worker into a skilled tradesperson. It is a contract between the apprentice, the employer and the State Training Authority that usually last for four years.
An apprenticeship combines practical, on-the-job experience with further training at a TAFE college or approved training provider. Most apprentices attend a TAFE college for up to eight weeks for each of the first three years of their apprenticeship. The fourth year is spent working on the job.
