Westvic, through its Training Division and the Westvic Foundation, is delivering Certificate II in Hospitality to 12 students in the Community VCAL Program. Students recently experienced their first training session in the Industry Education Centre.

Westvic Staffing Solutions has launched an initiative which will help address a growing shortage of aged care workers in south west Victoria. Westvic is sponsoring six school based trainees in aged care at regional facilities, including Molly Mitchell who is working at Lyndoch in Warrnambool.

Hundreds of new jobs are expected to be created in south west Victoria from the Federal Government's decision to extend the Apprentice Kickstart program. Westvic Staffing Solutions has welcomed the new program announced in the Federal Budget and said it would give local employers a real incentive to hire new staff.

On 21 and 22 May Westvic assisted with the Try-A-Trade careers expo held in Melbourne at the Exhibition Centre. Westvic staff supervised a plastering Try-A-Trade site with the assistance of South West TAFE. Westvic and GTA Victoria provided transport free of charge for more than 140 south west Victorian secondary school students to attend the event.

Gaining an apprenticeship has been key to Kyle Neave's new role as a trainee locksmith. The 18-year-old landed a job at Warrnambool Locksmiths under the federal government's Apprentice Kickstart program four months ago and has relished working in his new role.

The Apprentice Centre welcomes Nikki Williamson to their team. Nikki joins Westvic as the Apprentice Centre's Customer Service Officer. With an extensive background in hospitality, Nikki's strengths are her customer-focussed approach to her work and her "can do" attitude.

Colac’s Lisa Holdforth was initially concerned about leaving her job and taking up a traineeship. But she says returning to an entry-level position opened up her job opportunities. Miss Holdforth has completed her traineeship with Westvic Staffing Solutions and host employer Colac’s LJ Hooker Real Estate, finishing a certificate three in real estate and certificate four in property services.
